Screwed by Virgin (Trains)

May 24, 2010 Monday

So today...well it sucked. Not all of it, though. It started out nice. We all got up and got our stuff together and then headed to Ali's work... at the CASTLE!! How cool is that? You can't say that about your job! I was quite excited because she gave us the grand tour of the archive. Its huge... well comparitivly at least. A bit messy, but full of great things. Letters signed by Henry the 8th and other documents that date back to the 12th century. Now thats history! Old letters, books, and more were pilled on shelves and hanging from the walls. Nothing like a little archive tourism. :) Once we finished, Ali took us to go get some lunch before we had to leave. We went and got a pork pie from a butcher shop. Its basically a big chunk of pork covered in a delicious flaky crush and bite size. YUM!! We also tried something...Kendell mint cake? Im not sure of the name. Basically its a sugar cube but softer and tastes like mint. Realllllly strong.

Next, we headed to the train station, but we had a bit of a problem. I didnt have the credit card with me that I used to buy the tickets , which is how you pick them up at the station. We hoped it wouldn't be a problem. So Ali walked us to the station and we said our goodbyes. It was a short trip! Then we went to sort out our ticket problem. I talked to the man at the window. No help. Then I called their customer service number. They told me they couldn't help me and that they wouldn't cancel the original tickets that i bought for 78 pounds in total. So we had to buy two new tickets for 91 pounds EACH!!!! Talk about being screwed over! What jerks!! But we did get our train back to London at least. When we arrived we had to go back to the same coach station we were at to go to Edinburgh. We had a few hours before we went to Paris via a coach (aka a large bus). That was the worst bus ride EVER. There was an american couple sitting behind us that would not shut up and I could not fall asleep. Then we arrived at customs in Dover. Odd that they had us go through before instead after like in the airport. We got off the bus (me with my blanket still wrapped around me), went through, and then got back on the bus. Then we waited for about an hour to drive onto the ferry. Once we got on we were able to get off the buss. We found a couch and I immediatly went to it. I still couldn't fall asleep though and had to take a sleep aid. Too bad too because I would have like to look around but it was really early in the morning about 1 am. It looked really nice with bars, shopping, and other things. Oh well, sleep is more important I guess.
