Italy, You Have My Heart
May 27th, 2010 Thursday
Ahhh Italy! If I were to move to another country that didnt speak English, this would be it! It is just so beautiful and laid back here. The streets are so nice with the cobblestones and appartments with windows and the colors! Oh its all so pretty!! So yeah, we arrived in Florence this morning and headed to our hostel to drop off our stuff. When we got there we had time to do a little internet and run to get a quick breakfast of some tasty pastries. ...I feel like this is a blog about food... lol... anyway, then we went back to the hostel because they were giving a free walking tour of Florence (aka Frienze). Our tour guide was great. She was a true native of the city and had such a cute accent She took us to some stuff that is a little off the beaten path. Oh this place is great. Better than Rome I think. Then she took us for a gelato break...and thats why I really love Italy! It just so amazingly tasty. On the tour we saw churches, bridges, and all sorts of things like a little wooden door that they served wine out of. You would stick your hand in with the money and they would stick the wine back out. This was to prevent theft and the plauge. Cool, huh?
After that we wandered through the shops and went into a church. It was gorgeous but they dont let you take pictures so I dont have any. Sad day. We then went back to the hostel and took a 3 hour nap. Ugh! Sleep gets in the way! I wish we didnt need it! But we forced ourselves to wake up and went to go see Michaelangelo's David. You may Ooooo and Ahhhhh now if you wish. Yep, it was outstanding. Very very tall. You cant take pictures but I managed to snap a few anyway. When we were done with that we walked back to the hostel to get a good recommendation for dinner. The place was pretty far away but the food was AMAZING! We got a bottle of white wine that was delicious and then split a pasta sampler that had pasta that was local specialites. We got 5 different types and they came out one after another. All were absolutly amazingly tasty! Then we got a sampler platter of deserts. Yum. So good! The only thing was that the waitress was horrible and we spent like 2 1/2 hours there! Not so cool. After that we walked the beautiful streets to our hostel and met two nice girls in the dorm that we are staying in. Ooooooooo and guess what???!!!! Tomorrow is the Gelato FESTIVAL here! Can you believe that they have a whole festival dedicated to gelato?! But sadly we are leaving and will miss it. Drats!!! Saddness for sure!!
