Do Pounds Grow on Trees?

Wednesday March 14, 2007

Today was the day I got to meet up with Ali! I was so excited to see her. It’s been so long! I am so glad that I got to do that awful pots project with her and Simon. The pots were hell, but we had such a great time together and I got a great friend out of the deal, how can you argue with that? So this morning I got up (shock) on time. *gasp*! I know I know. Then I headed to the bus to go to the train station, using my wonderful outdated bus pass. Heck yeah! The train ride was really nice. I made it there on time, the train was on time, and it arrived on time. Go fig! I got into Birmingham at 10:10 to meet with Ali to do some shoppin’! Now I already knew I was planning on doing some damage on this day, but little did I know how much. :) Now I don’t think I am that into shopping. I do it a few times a year- at Christmas and when I’m really depressed and need something shiny and/or purdy to cheer me up. But really, the shopping here is just on a whole other level. You just can’t resist it! So the damage began in TK Max. Yes, I said K and not J, don’t ask me why. I got an adorable little top that was much too expensive, but eh as Ali says “It just had to be done.” We spent a good amount of the time in there looking for all the horrendous things we could find. We found an adorable little green skirt that made us look like we were wearing a balloon around our butt- very flattering! Ha, ha. Then we went through the underwear section to find the most hideous and scary knickers that we could. As you can tell by the pictures, we most defiantly succeeded.

Next stop was the ever wonderful and magical Primark. No, no- it really is. I mean where else can you get jeans for 6 pounds, shoes for 3, and a shirt for 2! Ali and I spent probably a good hour or two in there. Hey, there were 3 floors so don’t look at me like that. You know I miss Primark, I had forgotten what a jungle it is in there. You know shopping during Christmas time… when there is a massive 70 percent off sale going on? Yeah, that’s a good picture of what Primark is like! It’s mass hysteria. All the clothes are thrown about everywhere like wild animals have gotten to them. Ali says that the one where she lives, most of the clothes are just laying about on the floor. I can totally believe her about that. I didn’t nab a picture but I am going to the Primark with Jennie on Friday and I must remember to take one in there so you guys will believe me. Anyways, I did some major spendage in there. Ouch! It was pretty funny though- I ended up with 3 pairs of shoes… how that happened I still don’t know. Best line of the day was when Ali and I were in the sock department and were looking at days of the week socks. She said, “they are great, but then I started wearing them on different days and it actually started to confuse me. You laugh, but it’s true.” LOL! Ahhh, too funny. Well all that shopping had left us quite hungry so we went out to look for a place to eat. I almost forgot about Wagamamas! How could I?? But then I saw it listed and we went there for lunch. Oh come on you have to love that place if only for it’s name. Come on you know you want to say it with me- Wagamamas! One more time (just for good measure)- Wagamamas! Ok I’m done. :D The food was fantastic of course, if not horrifically expensive. But what did I care right? Well after lunch we went back out to brave the crowds again. We went to various places and I spent even more money. Wha ha ha! Ali was a bad influence, I blame it on her. “Ali, what do you think?” “Get both.” “Ok.” LOL. Yeah, I really fought it as you can tell. We also had a great time trying on the tackiest, scariest, most 80s like shoes we could find. As you can tell, we succeeded again.
After the long shopping spree, we went to a Starbucks, had some much needed coffee, and then headed back to the train station. I was so sad to say goodbye to Ali, but I feel much better about it than last time. I really think I will see her again some day, so I’m happy. The train ride back was fine and I made it back to Jennie’s ok. I told her the scary damage I did to my wallet and of course we did more Ireland reminiscing. Us, obsessed? Never! Well tomorrow we go to Liverpool! So with that, I say goodnight!

Wagamamas! --We should get shirts that say that:)

I don't know why you're making fun of my underwear:P (j/k, I swear)

I can't believe you've gotten to do all that shopping. I'm so jealous!!! I have to see all the shoes when you get back--I'm a total shoe junkie (as you probably remember from our dorm days).
