Ciao Roma!

Friday April 7, 2006

Well like I said before, this is a day late being written. I think I recalled Thursday pretty well though. : ) So yesterday was my last day in Rome. We could do whatever we wanted for the morning so we decided to go to the Capitonline Museum. It was highly recommended by our tour people. But before we left, we had to pack up all our stuff so we could check out. Yeah, I had to lay on my suitcase to close it. Hehehe! But it did close! After we dragged it all out to keep with reception, we headed down for our last breakfast of cappuccino and a croissant. Ooo those were so good! Then we headed to the Museum. When we got there we were quite lucky- it was free. That was quite strange because in our booklets they gave us it says that it was somewhere around 6 or 7 euros. I don’t know if today was like a special day or something, but it was lucky for us! Inside we saw many a cool thing. We started off with a whole bunch of sculptures including some huge ones of Constantine’s head and pieces or his feet and hands. Next we went up a floor to check out a big collection of Roman coins that were quite cool. Another floor up was a current exhibition of photos. They were pretty entertaining because most were taken of tourists in Rome. After that we were finished with the building, but found out the museum continued on in another building! So we went across to there and first found some Etruscan jewelry. It was very pretty! It was of such minuscule proportions too! I remember leaning about these particular pieces and the professor saying it was small, but wow to see it in life- wow! Its amazing how they did such detail! Then we wandered through the next floor which was filled with sculptures. Many of them were heads and some of them were being restored. So we got to watch a woman working on that! And a statue of the dying Gaul. Oooo!

Sadly, we were running out of time so we didn’t get to go up a floor and look at paintings. We had to work our way back and on the way we stopped for pizza. Ooooo that was some good pizza. I think the lady called it pepperoni, but that doesn’t make sense unless that is what they call it in Rome. It had green, red, and yellow peppers on it and was absolutely yummy! I wonder what it was called and if I miss heard her. Hey I don’t speak Italian! Although Thursday we did stop by an outdoor market were some dude was all- ciao bella. I didn’t think he was talking to me so he said it again- Ciao Bella. I noticed it was me who he was talking to, but was like um ok leave me alone. He was like in his 50s- creppy old guy, get away! Hehehe. Now too bad I didn’t get that from some cute young Italian! :P Oh and Ciao Bella means hello beautiful for all ya’ll who don’t know much Italian. ;) Anyways, back to Friday- well we had to eat our pizza on the run to get back. On the way back one of the girls with us apparently had a run in with a guy trying to steal her camera I think! Yikes! She is Japanese so that’s why I say I think it was her camera. It was a little hard to understand what it was she was saying that he tried to steal, but he did slash her bag! The rest of us didn’t see it happen though cause she was a few steps behind us. But it was all ok- they didn’t get to nab her stuff and she was fine. But there ya go- there is Rome for you! When we got back we had to nab our stuff and put it on the bus. It was sad cause we didn’t have time for a single ice cream that day! Not one cone! Awwww!! Yeah we were all pretty bummed about it, but I did get a chance to run in and buy some chocolate. On the bus I offered it to the other girls- Best chocolate in the world? Anyone? Best chocolate in the world? Hehehe. They all had some and agreed quite thoroughly. It was the stuff that my parents brought back for us originally from Italy. Well after a short bus ride to the airport we all checked in, but we then had to wait 2 hours for our flight to leave! I took a little nap and the girls played cards.

Here is the "RB gang" (Rome Buddies) Sonja is on the left, then Melanie and Katie and Meika is on the right. Our flight was nice enough. It was like the one we first came in on- we had to climb the stairs to get on the plane. It was pretty cool. The flight was ok and the good news? I got my passport stamped on the way out of Italy and into England. So two new cool stamps there, but sadly they didn’t fully stamp my England one so it doesn’t say where I arrived. : ( I got back into Leicester and checked into a room here. They gave us our keys and told us where, but the thing is- the house was locked with a key we didn’t have! So I had to guard our luggage while a guy went to get someone. Pfff, yeah about a half an hour later someone showed up. Oh and… I now remember how cold England is! I was freezing last night standing outside. Heck, I was freezing all night and still am. So now I am back in Leicester. Rome was cool though.
