Die Internet Journals, Die!
Today I was quite proud of myself. I actually woke up in time to have hot breakfast even though I had no classes today. Of course I got there in the last 5 minutes that they were serving it, but hey- just in time! After breakfast I walked over to school and went to the Study Abroad office to fill out those forms. Only it was just one piece of paper so I am wondering if that was all I was supposed to fill out. She also gave me my itinerary so that was cool- I actually know what I am going to be doing now. The really great thing is that 5 dinners are also included in the trip along with breakfast at the hotel. So that’s sweet- one less thing I have to worry about! And more money for souvenirs! : P But as I was looking through the information I came across our directions for the 2500 word essay we are supposed to write. Um essay? Say what? “For our assessment” Um yeah I have no clue what that’s about. Maybe a few students are also going on the tour as part of a class. Cause I sure hope they don’t expect the rest of us to write a stupid essay. Pfft! No way! I’ll have to get to the bottom of that one later. So after I was finished at the Study Abroad Office I headed over to the library in hopes of researching for my human bones paper. I am at a complete loss as to how to do this paper! All the major sources it seems I would need are in an electronic journal named “American Journal of Physical Anthropology”. Trust me I know that name because I have been messing with this journal all semester trying to gain access to it, but with no luck. The university only lets us go back to like 1996, but the articles I need are a lot older than that. It is so frustrating. Then when I am reading books I am all like ooo that would be a good source. So I flip to the bibliography to see where they got the information from and what do you know- The American Journal of Physical Anthropology. BLAH! I even tried looking for sources for the other essay tittles, but I had the same problem. One essay had a main source from another journal. So I tried to look at that one. Same problem happened but this one gave me the option of “buying” the article for a 24 hour period. Want to know how much? 30 dollars! I kid you not! Then I had a brilliant idea- I would use my CSU id to access these journals. Sadly it didn’t work with the vein of my existence- The American Journal of Anthropology, but it did give me access to the other journal that my Leicester account wouldn’t let me have. So go CSU! But when I started reading the article I wanted to claw my eyes out. It was so horribly technical I barely understood every other word. I was like ok I’m not a graduate medical student, so this stuff is way beyond my grasp! So as you could probably guess, today left me feeling quite irritated and on the side of hopelessness. I wanted to write my professor an email complaining about my lack of sources, but she never gave us any of her contact information and she isn’t a normal professor with the university, so I am just going to have to wait until Monday when I see her in class to ask her what I can do. Until then I hope to start learning all my identification that I need to know about Roman pottery. Tomorrow should be fun! : ) Oh and today’s did ya know- “Did ya know that the keyboards here are different? Yep, the shift key on the left is further out, which makes it oh so fun to try to capitalize something while you are writing. You always end up like this- /b. A slash and the letter you were trying to type. Also, it was fun locating the @ sign. It is actually located next to the enter button. Darn, I wish I had taken a picture of that already to show you guys, but I forgot. I’ll try to nab one sometime soon and post it. I also got some fun other random photos to show you guys too, so I should be posting those soon! Love ya all! Take care!!
