Class, Graves, Sports, and Partying

Ok so this entry is really late. It covers yesterday Wednesday the 22. I got in at 3 am so it wasn’t like I was about ready to sit down and write everything out at that point, but to make it up I promise lots of goodies in this entry! Well yesterday I had my class for Roman Pottery. He changed the time so it was later on during the day but we were all able to show up so it wasn’t a problem. I am a little nervous about our project still because we haven’t started recording our data yet. We were still busy sorting though everything. Also, next week everyone hands in their dissertations so we don’t know if or when we will be getting together- keep in mind I only have one week left before break! Yikes! Which means that I am going to be super busy during my break when I am in Leicester. We didn’t get our quizzes back yesterday either because of the strike that is going on. He is under strict orders not to grade anything. Scared? You bet ya! Well anyways, after class was over it was so nice out that I just had to take another trip to the cemetery. I still find it so odd that it is just right across the street. Did you know that it is also longer and wider than the campus? I kid you not- this place is so huge! When I went in I found even more cool things. This place is so beautiful. I mean just look at it!

It also holds some mysteries (to me at least). A whole bunch of the tombstones have markers on it that are the same thing. One is an S with lines through it and another says “lhs”. They are not all together, but spread throughout the whole cemetery. I am quite intrigued. I wonder what they mean. Take a look for yourself...

Of course the headstones that really caught my eye this time were the ones with statues of angels on them. They are so amazing. Why have we resulted in just plaques on our graves now? They are just so boring. I mean we don’t even put nice sayings on ours anymore. I also think it is so sweet/sad how they say “So and So who feel asleep on this day”. Awww! Isn’t that such a nice way of putting it? Makes you want to cry when you see it written as a daughter who “fell asleep” when they were 9 or some young age. The cemetery differs so much in some places though. Some have just a little or no vines covering the headstones and some areas look like this!

Also, not all the headstones are the big ones I’ve shown you. On the right hand side of the cemetery most of the headstones are a lot smaller and less ornate, but randomly around you can find just little markers. I found this one which I thought was so sad.

Awww- Valentine’s Day no less. But a little something I thought of- isn’t that a Mason jar? Mason~ Mason jar? Connection? Hmmm. As I was leaving I passed by some vans that were doing work on part of the cemetery. I had quite a laugh because the company name was “Ashlea”. Hehehe- See the cemetery was just calling out to me yesterday! I was just powerless to it. : ) Well anyhoo, when I got back I went to dinner. It started earlier than usual because last night was a varsity game of rugby. They’ve been advertising it for weeks now. So of course I had to go right? You bet ya! I’ve never seen rugby played before so I had no idea what was going on, but hey- now I can say I’ve seen it and it was fun just going to the match anyways. I even got to snap you guys a pic.

Oh and don't ask me why they only filled one side of the stands! They have some interesting songs too, that the crowd sang to the other team. This team is their big rival because they are right next to us- think CSU vs. CU. Anyways, the songs were so bizarre because they took a stab not at the team really, but the school. “Que sera sera! What ever will be will be! You’re getting a shit degree! Que sera sera!” : ) Hehehe- nice, huh? Also, they had one saying something like- You won’t ever get a job. I think I figured out these jabs though. See as it turned out we lost- not pretty. So I think they knew they couldn’t say the team was bad, so they had to go with taunting them with their “supreme university”. Pfff- yeah whatever, they still lost. (Actually the girls won their match that they played right beforehand… but sadly no one cares about them.) : ) Just stating it how it is! Since we dumb Americans with our poncey sport of so called “football” didn’t understand the game and we were loosing anyways, we headed back to the university for “Red Leicester”. It is held every Wednesday night the club/bar on campus. Well really it is a series of clubs all connected together in multiple rooms. Think like the whole basement of the Lory Student Center on the CSU campus. It’s that huge. Well actually it might be even bigger. It also has like 6 or 7 bars in it as well. It was quite a lot of fun and the music is pretty much what you would expect, but was really weirded me out was when people actually seemed HAPPY that MmmBop by Hanson was playing! They must have all been seriously drunk, that’s all I can think of! But I met some more British friends of one of the American girl’s. One of them was from Wales- “Do you know where that is?” I all looked at him like he grew a second head. What a strange question. That’s like asking someone in Texas if they know where Mexico is. He said though that a lot of Americans he has talked to didn’t know where it was. *Hangs head in shame!* Why must so many Americans be so stupid?? He was actually quite nice though, which has led me to a very important conclusion! Only the English are the jerks, the rest of the British are quite nice- Wales and Scotland. Well, I haven’t met anyone from Scotland but they got to be nicer than the mean ole English. Seriously, one thing I have learned is that the English don’t hate Americans. Oh no- that’s much too nice. They loathe Americans… or possibly just everyone else. Uh oh- they are just like the Persians in France! OOooo they’d hate me even more if they found out I said that! LOL. Oh and I have even another pic for you guys! Yep- here is the American gang that went to Red Leicester last night.

I got back around 2:30 when we ordered a pizza. OOoo food that wasn’t made in the dorm! YUM! Ok, well that was by far (like 2 times) the longest entry I have ever had. And loads of pics too. I went on WAY too much I know! Sorry! But did you guys enjoy?
