"I Feel Like I am Famous!"
Another study abroad student from Mexico said this today and I couldn’t agree more with her. We have been handing out pictures of ourselves with our signatures on the back like they were candy. Seriously, the University required us to give them soooo many pictures of ourselves for various reasons. Yep today was registration day. Which means all the waiting and anticipation are finally over! Yay! It actually wasn’t that bad. A little old school perhaps, but not bad. You see we had to go to our individual departments and talk to someone who gave us an overview on the department and signed us up for classes. We were lucky because only the study abroad students were doing this. All the other students did it for the whole year back in September. So no big lines…excuse me “queue”. All these new words! Man, I’m telling ya- its harder than you would think. So anyways, I went to Historical Studies first. Which is somehow different than Ancient History (I have no idea why they separate them). There, I signed up for “Reconstruction Histories: Medieval Devon.” It sounds pretty good- we shall see. Then I went on over to sign up for Archeology- (You know they have to have a good Archeology program when it is its own department. Yay!) Over there I signed up for “Iron Age Britain”. I can’t remember what that’s all about, but I think it sounded good…Oh come on give me a break its about one in the morning here! Then I got really lucky. I really wanted to take the class “Human Bone Analysis” but I wasn’t pre-approved for that class earlier so I thought I wouldn’t be able to take it. As it turns out someone in the room with me was signed up for it and decided to drop it. So I got her spot! WhooHoo! So those are my three classes. It is a full course load. But I must confess…now don’t hate me all you fellow college students!....but I only have class Monday and Tuesday. Yes, only one meeting for each class, once a week. BUT…don’t hate me quite yet. Apparently it is pretty intensive on your own reading and the such. So I’m sure I will still have a lot of studying. Eh, I don’t know though. Ill give ya guys full details on it next Monday and Tuesday. Well when I got the signitures from the department that I needed I had to take my forms to my study abroad advisor here in Leicester. They marked me off, took my tuition money from me, and gave me my library card. Next I had to go over and register with the library. You know you have to swipe your library card to get in? Gee! Top security- I’m telling ya! I guess I now have a Leicester University email address since I registered, but I don’t know where to go check it or anything. Huh. Oh well. It also gives me access to other things, but I have no idea what. I’m sure I’ll figure it out. Oh- a fun little adventure I had on campus…well they have this cool little system like an elevator but not. I can’t remember what they call it, but basically its just a series of tall boxes that move continuously and you have to jump in and out without it stopping. I’m sure some of you have heard or seen this before, but it was pretty cool. No waiting for an elevator! Sweet! Well that’s unless it breaks down. Which it did. So that meant that when I came back to this building that I had to climb a massive amount of stairs. Or wait for the elevator, of which I’m way too impatient for! So that got me a lil dizzy going around and around and around for like 10 floors. I’m sure if I had to reach the 17th or higher floors I would have just waited for the elevator. (This is the tallest building on campus, so I guess that’s why they have the little box lifts.) So when I was done on campus I hoped on the bus (which I was quite proud of, let me tell you. I’ve never done the whole mass public transit before- so I didn’t know what I was doing. Hehehe!) I even got off at the right stop and everything. Go me! Back at the dorm I finally unpacked my suitcase. Well, that’s to say I took things out of it. I haven’t really organized my room yet. Once I do, I will take pictures and you guys can all check it out. After that I went to ASDA- their version of a Walmart. It was a total waste of a trip though cause they were all out of the things I needed. I guess a bunch of students got there before me. Dang it! Well I can live without a hair dryer for a while I guess. Now an alarm clock? Well, I have a faint one on my organizer that will hopefully wake me up! Anyways- That’s the news from England. Do I ramble too much? Is this just way too much information? I dunno- I think you guys are liking it so far, aren’t you? Love ya all! And Yay it’s the weekend!
